KEMP Receives Family-Friendly Company Certification

2025-01-14

KEMP received family-friendly company certification on December 1, 2023. Its management framework and workplace policies support employees in balancing their work and personal lives.

What is family-friendly certification?

The Korean certification program assesses companies and public institutions that operate family-friendly practices, including childbirth and childcare support, flexible working and a supportive workplace culture.

Certification pathways in the 2023 program materials

The program materials describe three pathways: initial certification for three years; a two-year extension for organizations initially certified in 2020; and three-year recertification for organizations recertified in 2020 or granted an extension in 2021. Initial applicants were companies and institutions meeting the requirements for family-friendly workplace practices.

Benefits of family-friendly management

The program promotes shared benefits for employers, employees and society. Its intended outcomes include stronger recruitment and retention, greater employee engagement and productivity, improved work–life balance and job satisfaction, career development, and lower stress. Broader objectives include a family-friendly social environment and greater workforce participation.

Family-friendly practices at KEMP

KEMP has introduced a range of measures to improve employees' quality of life and job satisfaction.

1. Family Day: Under the policy reported in December 2023, everyone finished at 17:00 on Wednesdays, with no overtime, work dinners or meetings after that time.

2. Childbirth and childcare support, as reported in December 2023: parental leave; 90 days of maternity leave; 10 days of partner childbirth leave; restrictions on night and holiday work during pregnancy; a two-hour reduction in daily working time during pregnancy without a pay reduction; reduced childcare working hours of 15–35 hours per week; time for prenatal examinations; and family-care leave.

3. Flexible working: remote work and staggered working hours.

4. Other support and working conditions reported at the time: family-invitation briefings on business plans and team events; a five-day working week with Saturdays as unpaid days off; workplace rules prohibiting sexual harassment, supported by annual prevention training; and rules prohibiting workplace bullying.

As of December 2023, one employee was using parental leave, two were using reduced hours during pregnancy and one was working remotely, illustrating employees' use of the support programs.

KEMP continues to improve its programs and workplace practices to help employees manage work-related stress and maintain a healthy balance between work and family life.
